To configure a product's dimensions when creating an order, it's important to know that carriers follow certain criteria. Keep in mind that they always use the higher value:
Actual weight: the total result in kilograms when weighing the product
Volumetric weight: calculated by multiplying the product's volume (height x width x depth or length) and dividing the result by 4000 (the chargeable-weight coefficient)
How is volumetric weight calculated?
As an example, if you want to ship a package via Andreani, the formula would be: height x width x length / 4000
In other words, if the package weighs 0.800g and its packaging is 10cm tall, 30cm wide, and 40cm long, the volumetric weight of that package is calculated as follows: 10cm x 30cm width x 40cm height / 4000 = 3kg
In this case, if the package weighs 0.800g, its volumetric weight is 3kg. Therefore, the shipment will be charged based on the latter. All carriers operate this way.
We recommend always having the volumetric weight loaded in your platform. If, for example, you have a pillow listed in Tiendanube that weighs 1kg but weighs 2kg total with its packaging, it should be loaded as 2kg. This way, you'll always be charged the correct shipping cost.
